Important Tests
|
At Adrenaline Performance Center we test athletes regularly from MMA superstars to elite Olympians, baseball, hockey, etc. While the sports may differ, the testing is similar and very telling. Here are some of the tests we employ at APC.
Verticle: Verticle jumps is a very telling test, and a great way to measure lower body power, as well as chart improvement over time. We use a just jump mar, but you can also use a vertex. Just be careful, as I found a three inch difference in the two. Just jump is a truer read, but will give the athlete less height. Anything over 30 inches is very good. Anything over 35 is elite.
Weighted Chins: While NFL combines freak over 225 bench press, it doesn’t impress me as much as an athlete who can pull heavy. Having a strong posterior chain , and strong puling muscles is where it’s at. It will help eliminate shoulder injuries, and since the density of the back and lats are so great.
10-10 test / 500 Meter Row: 10-10 is a great anaerobic test – 10 incline, 10 MPH on the treadmill for as long as you can manage. If your athlete is not a great runner, them put them on the rower for 500 meter sprint. We do 2 with a 2 minute break in between, then tale the average.
Focus on these 3 tests: 1 power, 1 strength, and 1 anaerobic. I will post 3 more next week.
