New Toys to Put in Your Playground
|
As a coach I always like to evolve and try new things in an effort to keep the body shocked and guessing. At most conferences I attend, someone always has a new gadget or toy out that claims to be the latest and greatest. 99% of the time it’s just a fad or a waste of time. The market is now saturated with toys and training tools. Finding that diamond in the rough is much harder now.
Here are my top 5, in no specific order, of must-haves for your gym.
1. TRX Suspension Trainer
A great tool not only for your gym but also for taking on the road or outdoor training. It’s a tool that gets used everyday at my gym which says a lot.
2. Sandbags
They have been around forever but haven’t caught on yet. They will. They are very useful for extra loading of movements.
3. Battling Ropes
This is a great upper body and anaerobic tool, not to mention they’re a lot of fun. Athletes and clients love them. They are great for placing in circuits.
4. Fat Grips
It’s a great bonus for athletes in MMA where grip strength is paramount. They’re good to use with Chin Ups, Farmer’s Walks etc. Farmers at my gym swear by them.
5. Airdynes and Rowers
Last but not least I threw a curve ball. I’m putting two pieces that were popular back in the day but have dropped off the map. Airdynes and Rowers, while nothing new, are used everyday in my facility. Hell, I don’t even own an elliptical, and my treadmill and bikes rarely get any work unless I’m testing. Concept2 has a great rower, while the Airdyne, even though it breaks down on me all the time, remains a great tool for intervals.
Note: I tried to list things not so well known. Obviously we’ve all heard of Kettlebells and slide boards etc. My list could be 15 things, easy. These are just a few I’ve been using more over the past two years. TAGS: |
